Why we are called The Church of the Double Portion Church
Our calling to share God's love in abundance - both physically and spiritually
Stepping out in bold faith to bring God’s physical provision and spiritual power to our community.
The Church of the Double Portion reflects our calling to share God’s love in abundance,
drawing on the fullness of Scripture, the teachings of Jesus, and the power of the Holy
Spirit. God’s heart is to bless both physically and spiritually. We seek to do this through
acts of generosity - providing food, practical help, and spiritual care. We want to be known
not for a building, but as a community that gives, serves, and demonstrates God’s love in
action.
The vision of a “double portion” comes from 2 Kings 2:9, where Elisha
asked for a double portion of Elijah’s spirit. Scripture speaks elsewhere of God’s double
blessings – joy instead of shame (Isaiah 61:7), protection and provision (Psalm 91), and the
Spirit’s help and intercession (Romans 8:26–27). For us, this means seeking both practical
compassion and spiritual power – caring for people while also expecting miracles as we pray
and trust God to move.
The Church of the Double Portion is a place where all are welcome
- rich or poor, outcast or influential, broken or strong. Here, the hopeless can find hope, friendships
can grow, and lives can be transformed by Jesus Christ through His Word and Spirit. We long to show
God’s love boldly, taking risks in faith, so that He is glorified and people encounter His transforming
power.
Now you know where we've come from.
Our history spans more than 365 years of faith and unwavering commitment to this community. That story doesn't just live in the past, come and experience the living continuation of it through worship, music, and fellowship.
